Vizhinjam

                                 

                                   Vizhinjam is a locality of Thiruvananthapuram city in the Indian state of Kerala. Kovalam beach is just 3 km from Vizhinjam. The areas in and around Vizhinjam are known for its Ayurvedic treatment centers and internationally acclaimed beach resorts. As of 2001, the population was 18,566. Vizhinjam is a natural port, which is located close to the international ship route.


              Vizhinjam International Seaport is an international deepwater multi-purpose shipping hub in its initial stages of development. The total project expenditure is pegged at Rs 6000 crores over three phases and is proposed to be developed on the landlord model with a view to catering to passenger, container and other clean cargo. The project is currently in the tendering stage.


              Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium, which was established in 1997, is situated at Vizhinjam, which is an important fishing port in Kerala. This aquarium showcases the rarest species of invertebrates and ornamental fish in the world. Managed by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), this aquarium houses crabs, squirrelfish, moon wrasse, clownfish and butterfly fish.



             Visitors to the aquarium can also see lionfish, giant turtles, surgeonfish, triggerfish, piranhas and sharks. This aquarium has a pearl oyster, which can transform a mould of shell cement into a pearl by using the Image Pearl Production Technique. The aquarium is located around 1.3 km away from Kovalam, near Theatre Junction, and can be reached within 3 minutes.

Hogenakkal falls

                                                        Hogenakkal  is a  waterfall  in  South India  on the  Kaveri  river in the  Dharmapuri district  of the Indian state of  Tamil Nadu .  It is located 180 km (110 mi) from  Bangalore  and 46 km (29 mi) from  Dharmapuri . Sometimes referred to as the " Niagara Falls  of India," it is known for bathing areas and hide boat rides, projecting itself as a major  tourist attraction .  Carbonatite  rocks in this site are considered to be the oldest of its kind in South Asia and one of the oldest in the world.  The Government of Tamil Nadu made a proposal to convert the falls into providing drinking water for the state.                                                   The word Hogenakal is formed of two  Kannada  words  hoge  and  kal .
