Chennai

  


                      Chennai is the capital city of Tamilnadu State.  It is one of the metropolis of India and serves as the gateway of  the  culture  of South India. 

                     The city houses several Hindu temples, churches and museums.

                      Chennai is the base for Tamil cinema, sometimes nicknamed as Kollywood, alluding to the neighbourhood of Kodambakkam where a number of film studios are located.



                   The zoo, beaches and wildlife parks form the primary recreation areas of the city. Chennai has a 19+ km coastline with its corporation limits. The city boasts two popular beaches, the Marina and the Elliot's. The Marina spans 13 km (8.1 mi) between the deltas of Cooum and Adyar, and is the second-longest urban beach in the world.

Best time to visit

Chennai is a hottest city, November to Februaryis the best time to visit , These months constitute the winter season in Chennai.  The temperature during these months hovers between 20 and 25 Degree Celsius. Even during daytime, there are cool breezes from the sea which provide relief from the otherwise hot weather.

By Air

Chennai airport is the third busiest airports in India, Chennai International airport is just 7 kilometres away from the city. It has two terminals. Most of the international and domestic airline carriers have direct flights to the terminal called Anna International Airport in Chennai making the airport well-connected to most major airports in the world. Domestic airlines operate on a daily basis at the Kamaraj Domestic terminal (located near the international terminal, just 150 meters away from each other.)

By Train

Chennai has three major railway stations namely Chennai Central (code MAS), Chennai Egmore which is just 2 kilometres from the city  and Tambaram which serves the suburban areas of Chennai. Many super-fast and express trains run on a daily basis and are well-connected to cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Cochin, Hyderabad, Kolkata and other Indian cities. 

By Bus

Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminal (CMBT) is one of Asia's largest bus stations. Around seven state owned companies run buses to and from various destinations within South India.

Hogenakkal falls
